About this space
The "River Chalet" is a beautiful remodeled fisherman's cottage from 1931 that sits on the banks of the Big Nestucca River in Pacific City. Just a short walk to the beach and nestled in the heart of Pacific City's eclectic "downtown" its the perfect place to slow down and recharge. Relax in the hot tub overlooking the river and walk across the street to get your coffee and scone at the "Grateful Bread" bakery. Launch your kayaks/SUP's from the large dock in the front yard for a sunset paddle!
The space
The River Chalet is a wonderful vintage home on the river from a bygone era when life was a bit simpler. While the outside of the house may look "normal" the inside has been recently remodeled into a creative mix of vintage and modern that gives the opportunity to create many new stories. The living room has a cozy gas fireplace and vaulted 20' ceiling with 1930's open beam architecture. There is a very large window on the west side of the living room that looks out across the river and beyond to Haystack rock even. If you really want to get cozy there is a record player, that is also blue tooth compatible, and a handful of records to choose from onsite. Each bedroom has a fanciful staircase leading up to it and a large original window that looks down on the living room. The kitchen is large, well stocked for all your basic cooking needs and is light and bright. The remodeled bathroom is clean, bright and boasts a vintage claw foot bathtub, cork floor and 1930's sink. The River Chalet has a large grass yard and a floating dock in the Nestucca River. Our neighbor Barbara, who is in her mid eighties, shares this dock on occasion. If you see her, say hello, shes wonderful! We advise only those that are comfortable and competent swimmers to use the dock. The River Chalet is approximately 8 minute walk to the beach and literally across the street from the best bakery/coffee in town. From the stained glass in the front hallway, to the vintage art, to watching the tide rise and fall in the river, there are so many wonderful details at the River Chalet that will inspire a truly wonderful stay!
Other things to note
Important Hot Tub & Dock Rules:
Hot tub Rules:
Using a hot tub can have a positive impact on your health and well being. It’s a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the river scenery while staying at our home. There are a few things we ask you to bear in mind regarding the hot tub.
1. The Hot Tub is open from 8 am to 10 pm daily. Please respect these timings for our neighbors’ sake.
2. Please avoid using glass tableware or glass bottles near the tub.
3. Guests must shower before entering the pool to rinse off any sunscreen and/or oils and lotions.
4. As wonderful as a soak in a hot tub feels, staying in the water too long or at too high a temperature can cause overheating or other health issues. Most experts recommend you stay in a hot tub no longer than 15 to 20 minutes at a time.
5. While using the tub only use the “Jets, light or temperature” buttons. Don’t push the “Settings” button at all as it can change the basic functioning of the tub such as the cleaning and heating schedule and render the tub unusable.
6. The Hot Tub temperature is preset to 104 degrees. This is as hot as it goes.
7. Before using the hot tub, pregnant women should consult their physician for medical advice on whether it is advisable.
8. Similarly, individuals with a heart condition, high blood pressure, or other serious medical condition should not enter a spa without a doctor’s OK.
9. Alcohol is best avoided when using a hot tub.
10. Hydration is important, so offset the effects of perspiration by drinking lots of water (in bottles or plastic cups, since glass is a hazard around hot tubs).
11. Be cautious about the effects of prescription drugs. When talking medication that may cause drowsiness, avoid using a hot tub since the effect can be heightened by immersion in warm water. If in doubt about whether a drug is compatible with spa usage, consult your physician.
12. The area around hot tubs can be susceptible to slips and falls. Please use caution on surfaces in the walkways and perimeter of the hot tub, and avoid splashing since water can make nearby decks or stairs slippery.
13. The Hot Tub is locked to ensure that children and others do not have access to the hot tub while unattended. When not in use please keep it locked.
14. When finished, make sure you secure the hot tub cover with the attached strap when the hot tub is not in use.
The Dock Rules:
The dock at the river house is on the Nestucca River. It’s a cold-water river that is attached to the ocean and affected by the oceans tides. That means the water level goes up and down throughout the day and the currents go both ways and sometimes quite quickly. The Nestucca River is open to powerboats. There are many times power boats come up or down the river in front of the dock extremely fast. Please always stay out of their way and use extreme caution on the water at all times. When on the dock use caution and make sure your ability level around water matches the conditions and use of the dock. If you fall into the river, swim to shore and exit there. If you cannot swim or are not comfortable in water we recommend you do not use the dock. There are NO LIFEGUARDS. Use at your own risk.
It is the responsibility of the Guest to learn about the dangers of various water conditions and safety procedures involved with swimming near to or being on a floating dock. There are no children allowed on or near the dock. Guest is hereby notified that the dock and water can be dangerous and guest fully accepts the risks involved. Guest and all individuals in Guest’s party including Guests and their invitees agree to swim, use dock and water surrounding at their own risk.
Child Safety- Never leave a child unsupervised near the water, not even for a second. Do not use floatation devices as a substitute for supervision. Your attentive supervision is absolutely required to avoid risk of serious injury and/or death.
Do not swim near the dock, supports, or under the dock. There are sharp objects on, around and near the structure below the dock.
There is NO diving allowed. Diving can cause serious injury, paralysis or even death.
Do not get between or under boats, water toys, or ropes near the dock, you could be trapped and crushed or drowned. Stay clear of any and all ropes securing items to dock.
We highly recommend that anyone under 18 and all non-swimming adults wear life jackets while on the dock.
