About this space
Sea-Quel is nestled on a quiet lane of generational Hood Canal homes that have served as a retreat for more than 50 years. For summertime vacations, our little community has a private pool, tennis courts, and a sandy beach filled with shells and treasures.
The winter months call for forest walks, beach combing after stormy weather, cider tours, and soaking in the hot tub after dark. Sea-Quel is our own magical getaway and we want to share it with you!
The space
Drive down the one-way lane to Sea-Quel and pull into the roomy driveway, which can easily accommodate two vehicles and room to load and unload. If it is a late arrival, the porch lights will be on, and we have motion sensor lights in the driveway and the front steps.
If you DO arrive after dark, you will notice that most homes have their outdoor lighting turned off after 9pm. This allows the owls, bats, migrating birds, and other creatures of the night, to have as much as their native habitat undisturbed as possible.
THE PROPERTY:
The grounds are fully available to JUST YOU. We have created different “rooms” for your enjoyment.
The driveway area and front gardens – Raspberries, herbs, perennial flowers, and black bamboo. Plenty of room to park, load, and unload.
The terraced firepit area with chairs and boulders to sit on flanked in the summer by banana trees, Hawaiian ginger, and other hardy tropicals.
The upper garden, just above the firepit has a flat faux grass area to play croquet and cornhole, or just sit in the sun. This area also has a little, magical garden path to the private hot tub.
The 6 person Hot Tub – (Closed from Memorial Day through Labor Day) protected by an 8’ hedge fence, and punctuated with café lights for a sweet retreat. It is sanitized with UV light and Ozone (which kills all bacteria, viruses, and other cooties!), so no chlorine smell will waft around you! We also perform regular full sanitation to keep it ready for you to enjoy. We provide fresh flip flops, towels, and robes.
The outdoor shower and toy deck – life jackets, pool noodles, paddle board wheelies - is just outside the back door access to the laundry room and full bathroom.
The separate dog relief area.
THE HOUSE:
The owner of the home is a retired professional chef, so a well-equipped kitchen is a must! Of course this includes a gas stove, great range hood, full sized refrigerator and tons of good lighting. We do ask that you use cutting boards on all counter surfaces – even if cutting limes to accompany the local organic gin that you picked up during a fun side-trip to Bainbridge Island.
Let’s talk Coffee – We provide you with ground coffee, sugar, and some creamers to start off your trip. We have a French press, a pour-over set up, a Nescafe, and a frothing wand for your choice of preparation. If there is anything else you need to make that perfect cup, just tuck it into your luggage (cinnamon? cacao?)
The cool, columnar Bari woodstove radiates heat into the whole house during the cooler months. Warning, the glass window does get very hot, so not appropriate for littles. Of course, we also have a heat pump for year-round climate control.
Flanking the woodstove are the living room, media room, dining area, and a large, full-size bathroom complete with a refurbished 100 year old claw foot tub, perfect for long, deep soaks.
For entertainment, enjoy the 52” Smart TV in the media space, so you can log in and stream from any of your own subscription services. We don’t have screens in the bedrooms, since we are doing our best to keep those as rooms of respite and windows to nature.
The main floor bedroom we refer to as “The Nook”, with the queen sized bed snuggled up to the walls on three sides. The high ceiling, skylight, and walls punctuated with tip-out windows, makes you feel like you are glamping in your own little oasis.
The primary bedroom at the top of the floating stairs also has a queen sized memory foam bed. Track the stars as they drift across the night sky, but beware! You will also wake up with the sunrise, as the morning light filters in.
The loft library is perfect for your morning coffee, as is the balcony just outside the Dutch Door. We have extra blankets tucked around the house to wrap yourselves in while breathing in the fresh forest and sea air.
The upstairs ¾ bath has extra tall, vaulted ceilings, including in the fully tiled shower. TALL folks have met the shower of their dreams – the rest of you regular-sized humans will love it too!
REMOTE WORK: It seems to be the way of the world now. We’ve got you covered with a dedicated roll-away, 7’ long office suite, complete with printer/scanner, device charging pad, assortment of office supplies, and a comfortable chair (even a cup warmer to keep the caffeine flowing hot and strong.) When you are done working for the day, just roll the office back into its resting place, and go have a well-earned afternoon or day of PLAY!!
FUR BABIES: What’s a vacation without your most loyal companion?!? (One dog only) We set up a convenient outdoor Dog Relief area complete with faux grass. We also have an outdoor warm/water shower wand to wash sandy paws, tummies, and tails. For the inside, we have two super-cozy, and waterproof, dog blankets for the couches and beds. Now Rufus can hop up and snuggle in with you! Dog walking adventures are boundless. Just walk “The Loop” – the little one way lane that Sea-Quel sits on – for a ¼ mile warm up. OR walk the Hansville Greenway forest trails, the beach, or just through the neighborhoods to gaze at homes and views. NOTE: if we find "poop treasures" either in the dog relief area, or Gawd Forbid, in other areas of the yard, we charge $8 per poop scoop. YIKES!!
OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE AND COOL STUFF:
A full- sized washer and dryer are on hand if needed, as well as laundry detergent and oxyclean stain spray.
We provide towels for shower, plus designated beach, pool, hot tub towels.
Private Community Pool, Tennis, Sandy Beach – Since this is a private community, we provide wrist bands for each registered guest, which allows access to these private areas. Non-registered guests are not allowed to use the amenities. (sorry!)
Pool is open Memorial Day Weekend thru Labor Day Weekend. There is an adjoining club house with changing rooms, outdoor showers, bathrooms, and a toddler play pool.
Stand Up Paddle Boards on site at Sea-Quel
Wood for outdoor fire pit
SECURITY: We have ONLY ONE Security Camera. It is aimed at the driveway to make sure that there is no one checking out the place when guests are not there. We have no cameras that can see the deck, the house, or inside any portion of the house. We do however have a decibal meter and a cigarette smoke detector - don't worry, it won't send us any notifications that you burned the toast!
GUIDE TO ALL THE FUN STUFF
We have put together a guide of all the fun things to do, seasonally and year round. Once you make your reservation, this will be sent to you so you can plan your visit.
We’ll tell you all the local secrets…. cider tour? We’ have the info. Where is the best bakery? Best microbreweries….we know them. Want to take a day trip, but not really sure what to do? We’ll give you a few fun ideas.
Yes, Sea-Quel is a magical place, but sometimes making memories elsewhere, then coming back to your haven, and talking about all the cool things you just experienced just makes the get-away that much sweeter.
