About this space

Treetop Hideout is a classic alpine chalet perched high on the ridge overlooking Idyllwild village, surrounded by panoramic views of the San Jacinto mountains. This secluded, quiet little cabin is for all forest lovers, but would be most enjoyed by folks with an adventurous spirit (see Winter Access). You will be greeted with the stillness of the woods, sunrise + sunset views from two cantilevered balconies, all while wrapped in a cozy, luxurious interior.

The space

LIVING ROOM
The main level is open concept with vaulted ceiling, dark bamboo floors, ceiling-high windows, and original wood burning stove that climbs up through the loft. If building a fire is not your idea of a vacation, there is also a ductless heating/cooling system.

The sofa is generously deep and cushy - perfect for a snooze, a glass of wine at magic hour, or snuggling around a crackly fire.

KITCHEN
Modern yet full of warmth with handmade oak cabinetry, thoughtfully stocked with all our favorite cooking things including All Clad copper cookware.

The pantry is around the corner with complimentary loose leaf teas from our shop in town - Shala Tea Company, coffee beans from our local Black Mountain coffee roasters, oils, honey and spices.

MAIN BALCONY
Let your gaze wander from Idyllwild village below to Tahquitz Peak above. You can watch sunrise peep over the ridge and sunset disappear behind the trees all from this one little spot.

Have a morning coffee sipping the views, an alfresco meal at the long dining table, watch the birds, spot the deer, turn off all the lights and look up at the stars.

QUEEN BEDROOM
Soft northern light fills this cozy room all day long. Fitted with an organic queen mattress, organic percale sheets, ultra fluffy vegan duvet, an antique writing desk, and stunning views from the large window. It is a tiny retreat within a retreat.

BATHROOM
Adjacent to the queen room is a finely remodeled spa-like bathroom with dual rain showers, candles, organic toiletries, turkish waffle robes, fluffy towels and a view of the evergreens. Enjoy as the setting sun comes streaming through the window each evening.

KING BEDROOM
Head upstairs and you’ll find a spacious cedar-planked loft with a king bed, memory foam mattress, softest flax linen sheets, ultra fluffy vegan duvet, comfy reading chairs great for sinking into, and another quiet balcony.

Intentionally we have not included a television, nor blackout shades or charging stations jammed up next to your bed. Give yourself a chance to feel unplugged, refreshed and maybe a little wild. Try waking up with the sun. Have a long hot coffee staring at the granite massif. Walk through the woods or summit a mountain. Find a book and a corner. Make a warm meal. Fall asleep after an unfinished game of chess. We hope you’ll stay awhile.

Guest access

SPRING/SUMMER/AUTUMN ACCESS
Our cabin is located on the unpaved portion of Tahquitz View Drive. The dirt road is well packed and our driveway is freshly paved. Totally suitable for 2WD vehicles as long as you're confident negotiating a steep driveway hemmed in by trees.

There is a flat pad and ample parking for 3 vehicles at the bottom, which still gives everyone enough room to turn around and head back out face forward. Keep in mind there is another 100 feet of gravel driveway from the flat pad to the front door.

WINTER ACCESS
Occasionally we get snow! Please check the road conditions on Highway 243 before you head out.

Always carry chains and know how to use them before you need to use them. They are often required for all vehicles to get up or down the mountain from any direction (Banning, Palm Desert, Hemet).

WINTER PARKING
Keep in mind we are located on the unpaved portion of Tahquitz View Drive. While it is ploughed just like the main roads, the snow stays thicker and takes longer to melt off, so reaching the house may require a walk of an extra 750 feet depending on the snow level + type of drivetrain your vehicle has. If you have any concerns with your vehicle getting stuck in snow, ice or mud, please message us directly for parking instructions.

Other things to note

WIFI & CELLULAR
The max wifi speed we can get to our area is between 50-100 MBPS. For those who need to work, be assured it is plenty enough to stream on a couple devices and zoom conference. Cell reception/LTE is great since we are at the top of the bowl.

NEARBY TRAILS
For a quick nature walk, there is a steep path that makes a circle around our whole property. Hide and seek views of Tahquitz (Lily) Rock too.

For more adventure, the cabin is smack in the middle between the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail and the South Ridge Trail Forest Road. You can leave on foot from the front door and access two premier hiking trails without angling for parking space.

For your convenience we have also provided a National Forest Adventure pass, so if you wish to park at one of the other trailheads just stick it on your dash. Just remember to return it before you head home.
